Once upon a time Katharine Eliska Kimbriel was a nominee for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New SF/Fantasy Writer. She has since straddled that magic no-man’s-land called “too literary to be commercial, too commercial to be literary.” Kimbriel just wants to tell good stories.
She has published two alternative history fantasies of dark magics. The first, NIGHT CALLS, LOCUS Magazine described as an adult “Little House on the Prairie with werewolves and vampires.” The most recent, KINDRED RITES, gathered cheers from her peers–writers such as Jane Yolen, Laurell K. Hamilton and Andre Norton all say “More Allie!” Her published novels include FIRE SANCTUARY, FIRES OF NUALA, and HIDDEN FIRES, stand-alone science fiction novels that take place on the same planet. There’s a chapbook out – WINGS OF MORNING – from www.yarddogpress.com, with a new Alfreda story and another tale that will be new to many.
Her SF series The Chronicles of Nuala is now available in multiple ebook formats, including Kindle and Nook. You can find her books at her three major retailers through Backlist eBooks. DRM-free editions are available at Book View Cafe. There’s currently a sale on the first book in the timeline, Fires of Nuala.
Katharine is finishing up the third Alfreda novel, planning to release a mystery with ghosts at Book View Cafe later on this year, and charting an urban fantasy that begins with an old curse.
