Thomas W. Knowles

admin @ November 27, 2007 # Comments Off

Thomas W. Knowles writes SF stories (”Curtain Call,” “Luck of the Draw,” “Captured Angel,” and “Just the Right Light”) that cross genres and mix true history with myth and legend. His award-winning non-fiction books deal with Americana, Victoriana, and military and law enforcement history. The American West is his favorite subject whether he’s writing SF, historical fiction, or non-fiction, and he’s visited that period in his Wild West series edited with Joe R. Lansdale, and in his three-volume, authorized history of the Texas Rangers, THEY RODE FOR THE LONE STAR.

In 2007, Tom and his business partners founded two new Texas-based publishing companies, Lone Star Publishing and Dark Star Books.

Katharine Eliska Kimbriel

admin @ November 27, 2007 # Comments Off

Once upon a time Katharine Eliska Kimbriel was a nominee for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New SF/Fantasy Writer. She has since straddled that magic no-man’s-land called “too literary to be commercial, too commercial to be literary.” Kimbriel just wants to tell good stories.
She has published two alternative history fantasies of dark magics. The first, NIGHT CALLS, LOCUS Magazine described as an adult “Little House on the Prairie with werewolves and vampires.” The most recent, KINDRED RITES, gathered cheers from her peers–writers such as Jane Yolen, Laurell K. Hamilton and Andre Norton all say “More Allie!” Her published novels include FIRE SANCTUARY, FIRES OF NUALA, and HIDDEN FIRES, stand-alone science fiction novels that take place on the same planet. There’s a chapbook out – WINGS OF MORNING – from www.yarddogpress.com, with a new Alfreda story and another tale that will be new to many.

Teddy Harvia (aka David Thayer) is a well-known humorous fan artist from Dallas, Texas. Born in Oklahoma he soon rectified that situation and became a true Texan. In his 20s, Teddy discovered Science Fiction and the world of conventions. Art was an early part of his life and became a central part of his fan life.
Over the years he has contributed several hundreds of illos and cartoons to hundreds of fan publications. In recognition of his ability Teddy Harvia has been nominated for the Hugo as Best Fan Artist a multitude of times (at least fourteen), actually winning this honor on four separate occasions.
His first Hugo was delivered in 1991 at Chicon IV, followed by another in 1995 at Intersection. However in 1997, he declined the nomination in order to be the presenter at the LoneStarCon 2 Hugo Award Ceremonies, receiving that year the Rebel Award instead. Since then he received another Hugo in 2001 and once again last year at the ConJose WorldCon.

Away from this world of Science Fiction, and as a means to finance it, Teddy writes and edits technical manuals. Currently, he is working on a galactic war romance novel.

David L. Gray

admin @ November 27, 2007 # Comments Off

David L. Gray, creator of the BUZZ BLASTER SPACE ENTREPRENEUR series of radio plays, is back at ConDFW for an encore performance. Join Buzz and his intrepid friends as they encounter manic robots and strange aliens in a series of space adventures.
Written in the tradition of 1950’s radio space dramas, these half-hour productions recreate that magic time when all you had to have to explore the universe on a Saturday morning was a radio and your imagination.
Not just a re-creation of 1950’s radio dramas, these episodes offer a different, one might even say irreverant, look at science fiction movies and television from the 1950’s through the 1980’s.
Experience 1950’s radio drama with a twist at ConDFW.
